Interrogé par le site Ozap, Gilbert Montagné y va de sa critique acerbe contre l’industrie du disque. À la lecture de ces lignes, on comprend pourquoi le nom de l’intéressé ne figure pas dans l’appel des artistes en faveur du projet Hadopi (riposte graduée, filtrage et surveillance généralisée du Web).
À la question « vous êtes touché par la crise du disque qui doit faire face à Internet ? », l’artiste répond sans oublier cette touche d’humour qui lui est propre : « non, dans le sens où je suis peut-être non-voyant, mais pas aveugle dans l'esprit. Au sujet de la crise d'Internet, c'est l'industrie musicale qui a été aveugle, car ils n'y ont pas cru au départ. On ne peut pas se plaindre d'un incendie quand on a donné des allumettes à l'incendiaire. »

Et l’auteur de défendre cette solution qui révulse tant les argentiers des majors : une taxe pour compenser les copies sur le Web. « S'ils avaient pris les précautions à prendre, ça ne serait pas arrivé. Cet amateurisme sera la cause de la mort de ces majors, prédit encore ce non-voyant célèbre qui croit en la possibilité pour chaque artiste de commercialiser directement les disques sur le Web. « Les majors n'existeront plus dans quelque temps et il faut savoir se recycler. Ce n'est pas affolant, ça ne me fait pas peur du tout. »

Bien sûr que c'est tout à l'honneur de Gilbert Montagné de tenir ces propos. En même temps il faut peut être aussi prendre en compte le fait que sa carrière est plutôt derrière lui et qu'à la différence de ceux qui débutent, lui a pu pleinement profité de ce que les majors lui ont permis de gagner. 4 majors qui décident des prix, les clients qui ne peuvent qu'acheter par ce canal, la pompe à sous était bien verrouillée et lui comme d'autres touchaient son dividende.
Son idée n'est pas mauvaise, il y en a certainement d'autres dont certaines ne font pas appel à cette sacré mani de recourir à une taxe.
